"A girl is generally taken at her face value; that is, she is thought to be just what she appears to be. Some people will take time to know her as she is; but the great majority in their minds pass judgement on appearances only."
It appears we have come to a time in our culture when women and girls do not take the time to really think about what their behavior and dress are saying about them. As I reflect on the pictures of my grandmother, I so fondly wish that the peer pressure of my time in history was more feminine and beautiful as it was for her in the late 4o's and early 5o's. It might have taken more effort than we are willing to do today, but I believe the respect we would gain for ourselves would be far greater.

unknown, unknown, my grandmother

"There is no more beautiful adornment to womanly character then purity and a girl does well to see that everything that concerns her dress and behavior when away from her home, on the street, or otherwise in the eyes of the public, is decent, clean, modest, and quiet."
